DSS Announces Mid-Year Budget Reductions

12.28.09 - The Louisiana Department of Children & Family Services today, in response to Executive Order BJ 2009-21, announced that it was reducing its spending of state general funds by $14.1 million, while at the same time ensuring that certain core areas - such as ensuring children are safe - will be protected from budget reductions.

Two Plead Guilty, Sentenced in Food Stamp Fraud Cases

DSS Plans to Open Child Care Assistance Program to Military Child Care Centers

12.03.09 - The Louisiana Department of Children & Family Services (DSS) is moving to help the state's low-income military families afford child care on military bases located in the state. The agency has issued a Notice of Intent to create a new Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) provider type, Class M, that would allow child care centers licensed by the Department of Defense (DOD) to become eligible for CCAP funding, along with all eligible children who attend that center.

State Agencies Take Steps toward a Coordinated System of Care for Children with Behavioral Health Needs

11.19.09 - As part of Governor Bobby Jindal's strategy to reform the health delivery system to improve coordination of care, measurably improve outcomes and reduce costs to taxpayers, four state agencies met today with a Stakeholder Committee to discuss implementing a coordinated system of care for children with behavioral health needs.
14 Defendants Indicted in Food Stamp Fraud Case

11.16.09 - Initial arrests were made today in the cases of 14 current and former state employees recently indicted as a result of a year-long joint investigation by the Baton Rouge Office of the United States Secret Service and the Louisiana Department of Children & Family Services’ (DSS) Fraud and Recovery Section into fraudulent activity during the Disaster Food Stamp Program in St. Mary Parish.
