DCFS Reduces Supplemental TANF Budget After Congress Fails to Renew Grant

11.04.11 -- As a result of the U.S. Congress not renewing the Supplemental Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Block Grant for Federal Fiscal Year 2012, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) today announced $17 million in reductions to programs for this fiscal year.

11.4.11 - A Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) investigation has resulted in the arrest of four individuals in Webster, Caddo and East Baton Rouge parishes, along with an individual sentenced after pleading guilty. They are accused of defrauding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly called Food Stamps, of more than $40,000 by failing to report household members and by providing falsified verification in order to obtain ineligible benefits.
