Department of Children & Family Services Launches Redesigned Web Site
User-friendly site features new logo, updated information and easy links to services
December 29, 2008
"The Web site redesign signals a new direction for DSS - one of transparency, service and access," said Secretary Kristy Nichols. "The new site is a tool for our agency to provide easier access to information and services for clients, providers and the public."
The main page of the Web site now features links to three of DSS's priority initiatives: Louisiana Neighborhood Place, Solutions to Poverty and Quality Start Child Care Rating System. Users can use links on the home page to check the status of child support payments, search for and compare ratings on licensed child care facilities, report fraud and download application forms for the Food Stamp Program, the Kinship Care Subsidy Program, the Child Care Assistance Program and more.
Links on the left hand side of the home page help visitors navigate to information in the most popular categories - Assistance, Parenting, Disabilities, DSS for Businesses, and Service Providers - or by visiting individual office sites. A site search also allows users to pinpoint information they are seeking.
In addition, a news center, monthly service statistics and a section featuring quick facts about the agency are available on the main page. The Web Site, which is 508 compliant for those with disabilities, also allows visitors to increase the size of the text and easily use text-to-speech or text-to-Braille software, along with other ease-of-use features.
DSS currently is completing the Web site reorganization and information update. Additional features to be added in the coming months include a section highlighting DSS client success stories, expanded availability of licensing reports, video, and an online initiative featuring Louisiana foster children available for adoption.
