Louisiana Parents can now make Child Support Payments at WalMart, CVS, Albertson's and Other Retail Stores through MoneyGram
DCFS IS WORKING WITH MONEYGRAM TO COLLECT CASH PAYMENTS THROUGH ITS ESTIMATED 780 LOUISIANA LOCATIONS
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Parents who make child support payments through DCFS can now make cash payments through MoneyGram at Walmart, CVS or any other of MoneyGram's estimated 780 locations in Louisiana.
The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services has aligned with MoneyGram (NASDAQ: MGI), a money transfer company, to electronically send payments to DCFS for transfer to custodial parents.
The new MoneyGram service makes it easier and more convenient for non-custodial parents to make child support payments. Previously, the only payment option was a money order mailed to the Centralized Collection Unit (CCU) in Baton Rouge.
To make a payment through MoneyGram, parents need:
- Cash.
- Their LASES member number or LASES case ID.
- "Receive Code" 14695 (Note: This code can be obtained from the DCFS/Child Support Website, MoneyGram Website or by providing the retailer with the name Louisiana Child Support.)
- In addition to the payment, MoneyGram charges a $3.99 convenience fee.
"Our objective is to strengthen families by making it easier for parents to support their children and play a bigger part in their lives," said DCFS Secretary Marketa Garner Walters. "Payment options have been somewhat limited for parents who don't use traditional banking. With MoneyGram outlets in so many convenient locations, paying child support can become part of their routine."
In addition to storefront locations, parents can also make payments online at MoneyGram.com or from the MoneyGram smartphone app (available for Apple® and AndroidTM devices). MoneyGram child support payment services are currently available in 30 states across the country. In addition to being convenient for customers, it also gives states a way to increase collections and decrease operational costs.
"MoneyGram is recognized around the globe as a financial connection to friends and family," said Ross McFerrin, MoneyGram's head of payments. "We are proud to work closely with the state of Louisiana to provide these convenient payment services for families who need to make these important transactions."
