SNAP Households in Areas Affected by Flooding to Receive Automated Supplements

Supplemental benefits to be added by March 28th

BATON ROUGE - Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients living in areas impacted by the flood may receive automated supplements beginning this week, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) announced today. The federal Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) approved a waiver to issue automated supplements to bring SNAP recipients up to the maximum allotment for March.

Supplements offered to SNAP recipients differs from Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (DSNAP) in that DSNAP is for those impacted by a disaster who do not currently receive SNAP.

The FNS approved Caddo, Morehouse, Natchitoches Ouachita and St. Tammany parishes for supplemental benefits last week. They should have already received the automatic supplements if they are not already receiving the maximum benefits allowed for their household size. Tuesday, the FNS approved supplemental SNAP benefits for select zip codes in an additional 18 parishes: Beauregard, Bienville, Bossier, Caldwell, Claiborne, De Soto, Grant, LaSalle, Livingston, Madison, Richland, Tangipahoa, Union, Vernon, Washington, Webster, West Carroll, and Winn parishes. Supplemental benefits could be loaded onto recipients' cards as late as Sunday, March 27.
