State Central Registry


State Central Registry (SCR) information is available to in and out-of-state foster care and adoption agencies for purposes of approving a prospective foster or adoptive parent in compliance with the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006. It is also available to county/state/tribal child welfare agencies when providing services to former residents of Louisiana and to Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) agencies when certifying new CASA volunteers.


Guidelines for Requesting a Louisiana Child Abuse and Neglect State Central Registry Search:

  • Request must be submitted on agency letterhead with the purpose of the request stated.
  • Request must be signed by the agency staff authorized to request the SCR Clearance.
  • The packet must include a release of information signed by the foster/adoptive parent applicant to request the SCR Clearance.
  • For licensed child placing agencies requesting an Adam Walsh Act Clearance:
    • A copy of the current agency license to provide foster/adoption services needs to be included in the packet if DCFS does not have a copy on file.
  • State Central Registry searches for employment purposes CANNOT be completed by DCFS.

Timeframe for Completion of Response:

  • Requests should be completed within 5 business days of SCR receipt of all required documentation.
