Automatic SNAP Replacements Approved for 26 Parishes

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has received federal approval to provide 50% replacement benefits automatically to SNAP recipients in 26 parishes due to widespread power outages caused by Hurricane Laura. USDA also granted approval for DCFS to extend the deadline for recipients in other parishes to apply for replacement SNAP benefits, to extend all SNAP certification deadlines by three months, and to waive formal interviews for new SNAP applicants during the month of September.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is operating non-congregate shelters for evacuees from areas impacted by Hurricane Laura. Evacuees in need of shelter must go to the reception center to be placed at a hotel. Anyone who arrives directly at a hotel will not be admitted and will be required to go to the reception center.

With hurricane season off to an active start, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is encouraging all Louisiana households who are not currently receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to make registering for Disaster SNAP (DSNAP) a part of their hurricane preparedness game plan – even if they have registered before.
